began in 2008, the first year I exhibited at Potfest in the Pens in Penrith.
My working life had been spent in Financial services, so ceramics was a whole new world which I discovered in retirement.
I was delighted to win the year's Craft & Design prize for my entry in the competition, whose theme that year was 'Clayopolis'. I do, believe, though, that it was my story, rather than my pot which appealed to the judges. I had written:
My tower represents the soaring city of Clayopolis, where potters from miles around have gathered to celebrate their craft. The Pilgrim carries his small pot along the narrow, winding road, hoping one day to enter the city.
Since then I have exhibited at Potfest each year and gradually added other venues, including:
Green Door Artists Open Studios and exhibitions in South Lakeland
The Lake Artists Summer exhibitions in Grasmere
Up-Front Gallery at Unthank near Penrith
Art & Clay at the Athenaeum, Leasgill and
Farfield Mill in Sedbergh.
